Have a peek inside Ellerman House's private wine and champagne cellar

Ellerman House ( read more about this favourite boutique hotel of mine HERE in MY ESCAPE ) is a private owned estate, perched on the hill tops overlooking Bantry Bay. Not only is this villa a piece of heaven as a stylish and luxurious boutique hotel, it also holds one of the most spectacular private wine cellar.

To be able to view Elleman House's private champagne and wine collection is a treat. Actually it is more then a treat, it is a fantastic experience in so many ways for all senses. I was fortunate to get a private viewing when last visiting Cape Town and the photos we took turned out quite well show casting the art and architecture of this magical wine cellar. The story behind the art, design, the wine and champagne are quite amazing itself and I truly enjoyed learning more about wine but also about the local design that are prominent within this stunning space.

The cellar stores more then 7500 bottles, all lines up in a walkthrough wine rack- in the shape of a corkscrew. Filled with Chardonnay and Shiraz from Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and beyond it leads down to several other rooms and spaces. All designed in the most amazing shapes and materials. A beautiful art work itself holding only the best wine and champagne one can find.

Everything, from the staircases to the light fittings, were designed by South African artists, led by Angus Taylor. The attention to detail is astonishing and beautifully crafted. When you are done with being amazed by the design, sit down at the bar and have a private wine or champagne tasting led by Ellerman House's own skilful sommeliers.
